Police Department

The Wasilla Police Department was established in 1993, and has grown from eight (8) commissioned officers to 23 commissioned officers in 2005. WPD serves a city of approximately 6,700 residents. The growth of the Matanuska Susitna Borough has created an area population of nearly 70,000 residents. Many of the Borough residents and seasonal visitors shop and seek services in the city. Local residents and visitors from other parts of the state and nation pass through the City of Wasilla to access the many recreational opportunities in the Mat-Su Valley.

The WPD has been involved in many community projects such as Mat-Su Youth Court, bicycle safety programs, regional multi-disciplinary teams, and other local and regional projects.  WPD personnel participate on the AST S.E.R.T. with the Mat-Su Narcotics Unit, and the Mat-Su Child Abuse Investigation Unit.
