Annual Events

4th of July Celebration
Every year the City of Wasilla hosts a community parade and picnic on the 4th of July.  The parade typically begins near Iditapark and trails along through downtown on Herning Avenue and Swanson Avenue. A picnic follows immediately afterwards in the Iditapark lawn.  Over 3,000 people come to enjoy a day of festive activities that are sponsored by local business and the City of Wasilla.

Music in the Park
Each year the City of Wasilla sponsors Music in the Park at the amphitheater at Iditapark. Each week, various music groups perform for 90 minutes to two hours.  Music in the Park is usually held each Thursday evening starting in mid June to the end of July.

Wasilla Clean Up Days
The first week of May marks the clean up of the City after a long winter. Trash bags are distributed to the community and sections of the City are assigned. Dumpsters are provided for bag drop off. The event lasts for one week and at the end of the week the City hosts a free picnic for everyone who participated in the clean-up. Prizes are awarded to those volunteers who collect the most bags of trash. Trash bags are available at the Public Works Department at City Hall.

Alaska Arbor Day Celebration
In Alaska, Arbor Day is held in May. Wasilla is proud to celebrate this event and share in the importance of planting trees. The City of Wasilla has been named "Tree City USA" for several years. In our efforts to maintain that title, the City has been planting trees to improve parks and roadsides. This project includes continued tree maintenance and tree inventory. Community groups have been organized to help plant trees and shrubs throughout the City. Contact the Public Works Department to join the community in planting a tree!
