City Commissions

The City of Wasilla has many opportunities for citizens to serve on City Commissions. Wasilla Municipal Code (WMC) Chapter 2.44 outlines the general provisions of the Commissions of the City. Current permanent City commissions are:

• Airport Advisory Commission - WMC 2.68 
  Duties of the commission include making advisory recommendations to the City pertaining to airport operations and maintenance, development of airport lease lots, and recommendations as specified by the administration and the Planning Commission.
  
• Historical Preservation Commission - WMC 2.72
  Duties of the commission include development of a local historical preservation plan, make recommendations to the planning commission about projects that may affect historic and prehistoric sites, develop a local register, and many other items described in code. 
  
• Planning Commission - WMC 2.60 
  Duties of the commission include but are not limited to the following: review of Wasilla Municipal Code Title 16, Land Development, and the comprehensive plan; review all proposed rezoning requests; hear and decide all permit applications that require a public hearing; hear and decide appeals of permit decisions by the City Planner; and investigate capital improvement programs.
  
• Parks and Recreation Commission - WMC 2.64
  The purpose of the commission is to advise the City on matters pertaining to parks and recreation facilities.

Applications for Appointment to a City Commission are accepted in the Office of the City Clerk.
