The City of Wasilla is a community of over 6,343 residents which serves as the commercial center for the 53,000 residents of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Wasilla is located 17 air miles (and 47 road miles) from Anchorage. Mat-Su Valley climates are milder than other south central areas with an annual precipitation of approximately 18 inches. Proximity to Cook Inlet modifies temperatures with mean monthly highs in July of 69 degrees and mean December lows of 22 degrees. Sunlight varies from 5.5 hours December 21 to 19.5 hours June 21.
