Commission Application Information Applications for commissions are accepted in the Office of the City Clerk and remain on file for a period of two-years from the date of application. Commission Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Applicant names for a commission may be published in the newspaper and the merits of the appointment may be discussed during a public forum. Confirmed Commissioners will be notified of their appointment by the City Clerk. Prior to participating in a commission meeting, an Oath of Office for the term must be signed. Commissioners must comply with Wasilla Municipal Code Chapter 2.12, City Officers Generally in regard to defining financial interest, substantial financial interest, and conflict of interest.
Commissioner terms are staggered and is for a period of three-years. Terms expire on December 31, and new appointments begin on January 1. The only exception is when a commissioner resigns and a new commissioner is appointed to fill the remainder of a term, or when a new commission is formed.
Only the Planning Commission has term limits; no person may serve on the Planning Commission for more than two consecutive, full terms without a break in service for at least one full year. A Planning Commissioner who has served more than one-half of a term is considered to have served a full term.
